The NHLPA’s Player Programs are built to meet players where they are – from rookies to veterans, first contract to final game.
We offer tangible support through initiatives like mental health resources, personal development coaching, life skills training, and transition planning, all uniquely designed for our players.
Because being a hockey player is only part of each member’s story.

NHLPA UNLMT
NHLPA UNLMT is a player-driven program designed to help NHLPA members connect with who they are, personally and professionally, during their hockey careers and for years to come.
Personal strategists help players navigate unique education experiences and curated resources while helping them make real-world connections. This allows players to gain the necessary tools to navigate their careers and lives with purpose and confidence.
Whether identifying interests, building future-ready skills or networking outside the game, UNLMT supports players in defining success on their own terms, turning possibility into meaningful outcomes.

Health & Wellness
Health and wellness are foundational to a player’s career and quality of life. The NHLPA ensures every player has access to a safe, secure, and respectful environment; on the ice, in the gym, and beyond.
From injury recovery to mental health support, players are empowered to make informed decisions about their care, with integrity and autonomy.
Our goal is simple: protect well-being, prevent harm, and give every player the support they need to stay healthy, resilient and in control.

FIRST LINE
FIRST LINE is the NHLPA’s mental health and leadership initiative designed to empower Players with greater awareness, knowledge, and confidence around mental health. The program equips Players to recognize both positive and concerning shifts in well-being, offers practical tools for providing meaningful peer-to-peer support, and encourages early, proactive connection to helpful resources.

Player Orientation Program
The Player Orientation Program is a jointly administered program between the NHL and the NHLPA. Coming out of collective bargaining in 2013, the POP reaches players early in their NHL careers and is designed to enhance players’ life skills, generally and as they relate to life in the NHL. Over three training days each summer, approximately 90 young NHL players are selected by their clubs to attend the POP, where they are educated on a variety of topics ranging from finance to personal branding to sensitivity training.
